MICHELLE OBAMA
I am running to represent you as Maryland Delegate in District 7A because I want to bring a nurse’s perspective to improve health care policy and to promote healthy communities across Maryland. I have seen the consequences of inadequate staffing in hospitals, the inequities in our health care system, the devastating effects of preventable diseases due to a lack of community education, the impacts of inadequate resources for substance use disorders and recovery, and the effects of an under-resourced mental health care system. But I refuse to stand idly by and watch these problems persist. We need to advocate for high-quality, affordable healthcare and tackle issues like prescription drug price gouging, hospital staffing, the opioid overdose crisis, mental health care resources, and placing the patient back at the center of care. As your delegate, I will protect and advocate for patient safety, quality healthcare, a healthy environment, and healthy schools for all Marylanders.
Lauren is a mother, wife, registered nurse, and resident of Baltimore County. She works as a registered nurse at a local hospital’s cardiac surgery department, where she is committed to delivering safe and high-quality health care to all.
Child care needs to be more affordable. We need to invest in our educators by raising the minimum compensation for teachers and creating maximum for classroom sizes. We must strengthen our education system by investing in our educators and children, and ensuring that all children have the tools to succeed.
As a registered nurse, Lauren experiences issues that negatively impact health care workers and patient safety, and she wants to make a change. All Marylanders deserve access to high quality and affordable health care, and our health care workers deserve to feel safe at work. We must also make changes to address the mental health crisis facing our state.
We must be advocates for our environment, our access to clean drinking water, and fresh air. protecting our beloved Chesapeake Bay is one of Lauren's top priorities. From addressing environmental justice, to increasing clean and renewable energy, to reducing greenhouse gasses, Lauren wants to combat climate change NOW.
A healthy economy is necessary for a thriving community. We must invest in creating more green jobs in Maryland as a means to strengthen the economy and combat climate change. Union workers are the backbone to the economy, and we must support them and the fight for fair labor laws like better working conditions and better pay.
